Brown eyes are known for being the least appreciated eye color. For every song about a girl with brown eyes, there are at least ten about someone whose eyes are blue. Many girls have stared into their mirrors, wishing for all they were worth that their eyes were some other color that simple old dirt-brown.

While brown maybe the forgotten and rejected color for eyes, there is actually a lot of good to be said about the color brown. We’ve gathered some stunning information about this particular eye color that may make you start appreciating them more than ever before!

Brown eyes rule in popularity

Yes, we know that people don’t choose their own eye color, but it’s still a fact that brown eyes are the most popular. A recent study found that 79 percent of the world’s population has brown eyes. Blue is second in line with only 8-10 percent of the population having baby blues. While you may not like your brown eyes, it’s good to remember that you have plenty of company since the majority of the world has them as well! While brown eyes are the most popular around the world, only 41 percent of those in the United States have them.

You can thank melanin for your eye color

The color of your eyes is based on the amount of melanin that you have within your body. Not only does melanin dictate your eye color, but also the color of your skin tone. Unless a person is severely albino, everyone has some level of melanin in their bodies and those with higher levels get the darker eyes.

No two sets of eyes are the same

While brown maybe the most common color of eyes around the world, it doesn’t mean that they are all carbon copies of each set. Instead, each pair of eyes is different from another. Depending on the amount of melanin in their eyes, some people may have eyes that are almost black while others have a green cast to them.

Children don’t always take after parents

If you and your partner have brown eyes, it doesn’t mean that your child is going to follow in your pattern – you may get a baby that has blue, green, or violet-colored eyes. Surprisingly enough, the eye color of parents doesn’t really make that much of an impact on the color of their baby’s eyes since the color is determined by 16 genes!

Eye color might ruin your dating life

Sad as it is to say, if you’re a woman with brown eyes, you may have to settle for a guy who shares the same color. Research shows that blue-eyed guys generally want women who have the same color as themselves and find these women more attractive than their brown-eyed acquaintances.

Brown eyes may come with benefits

Despite what may seem like some downsides, brown-eyed people are known to be less likely to get some forms of cancer, type 1 diabetes, and macular degeneration.

While there are both benefits and downsides to having brown eyes, none of us have any option when it comes to what we are given! Learn to embrace your brown eyes and love them for the beauty they possess.
